I've just about wrapped up all of the work on the Silver Shadow the last couple of weeks and today was the first fire up since the tear down. The gas spheres and high pressure flexible hoses at the accumulators have been replaced, as well as the front brake hoses, and the height control valve seals have been swapped around, that was a 'fun' job. When I took the measurements of the brake pump pushrods the front one was out of tolerance by 0.002", the rear one was spot on. There was no discernable wear in any of the parts so it was just a matter of replacing the 0.006" shim with a 0.003", assembling and taking the measurements again. This time both pumps were bang on. A couple of other issues were uncovered during this work, the main one being some rather dodgy HT leads so a new set has been fitted, and new spark plugs for good measure. The owner, being conscientious was planning on replacing the coolant but as I'd already drained the radiator and the block it made sense for me to do this, that was today's job, once it was in I could fire it up and check for leaks - none so far but will see if there's anything on Monday. The last job for next week is to bleed the hydraulics, brakes & suspension. If you were wondering about the location of the brake pumps you can just make out the low pressure feed pipe fitting for the front pump next to the top left bolt of the thermostat housing and the rear pipe is between the coil and the intake splitter.
