Opel Manta SR going home

mcpheatauto

The work on the Manta SR has progressed well and tomorrow it'll be going home. I couldn't find any issues under the cam cover, other than an excess of silicone sealant that took an age to remove, there was plenty of oil so the cam cover was refitted with a new gasket. There was a coolant leak from the inlet manifold, when this was removed it was found to need some machining around the mounting holes, the securing nut faces weren't perpendicular to the mounting studs. While these parts were out of the way the brake pipes for the new bias brake master cylinder kit were fabricated and plumbed in and the engine bay wiring loom was modified to add the wiring for the electric fan & washer pump and secured to the frame with new clips. Using what I learned from trying to get a car through IVA I made sure the fuel filter & associated hoses as well as the battery wiring was secured and safe. As for the poor starting, that was just a matter of removing the poorly sealed pipe that used to feed the brake servo and sticking a blanking plug in its place. With that done it fired up easily and idles just fine. I've also sorted out the wiring for the headlamps, side lamps, indicators & brakes.
