I took a look at the Nissan Figaro this week and things moved on quite quickly. It was decided that the engine, what with it leaking oil from just about everywhere, and having 185000km on it, should be replaced for a rebuilt unit supplied by The Figaro Shop. Fortunately they had one on the shelf so I went ahead and dropped the entire drivetrain, including the front suspension and brakes as they had to be out of the way anyway. It was all quite straightforward, it's a well engineered small car that came apart in a obvious way, no need for a manual, which is handy as they are hard to come by. I've removed all of the necessary parts from the old engine and cleaned them ready to go on the new one, which, by the way, turned up this afternoon, truly excellent service. I'm also replacing the pump & half shaft seals and servicing the transmission, the oil that came out of it looked very old indeed so the sump has been cleaned out and I've replaced the filter. Something else that hadn't been changed for a while was the distributor cap, the terminals were almost completely burned away so a new one of these, a rotor arm, and a set of wires will, I am sure, improve the starting and general running. It'll all go back together with new hoses for the air & coolant and the owner even has a replacement turbo to go on. The bushings and ball joints on the wishbones were all worn so new wishbones are on their way, they come assembled and ready to fit. And lastly the steering rack, the owner has been topping up the reservoir since he's had the car so I've removed it and will strip it down to replace the seals, that should do the trick.
