This MG TF was starting to feel like it was going to be around for a while, when the head was removed it was found to be no good, coolsant had eaten away at the mating surface and there was no way it was going to seal. Budgetary restrictions meant a rebuilt head was out of the question but then my pal who sent me the job found a spare complete engine that was supposed to be good so he bought that for £180. The 'new' engine was dropped off last Tuesday so the day before I took out what was left of the old engine and then transferred all of the good parts from the original, replaced the cam belts & tensioners (easy with it on the bench) and installed it in the car (not so easy with the head on). The it was a matter of hooking it all up whilst replacing whatever was found broken or missing. By Friday it was ready to fire up and it kicked off right away, good oil pressure, no leaks and ready for the road again.
