Work has progressed on the Jaguar XJ6 this week. The oil leak was coming from the rear main oil seal so it was decided to pull the engine out to investigate further. This has led to the engine being completely stripped down and a couple of faults have been uncovered. The rear main bearing & crankshaft journal are quite badly worn and this movement may have led to the rope seal being forced out of position, leading the leak. There were bolts missing and lock tabs either not present or unsecured. The pistons, rods, timing chains & cylinder head are all ok so it will only be a partial rebuild. I've also removed the non-working radio to have Eric Capron at Radio Rescue fit an FM tuner and give it an overhaul.
